Drastic Changes Coming to Facebook

Zuckerberg demonstrates the new
"Facebook Timeline"
Contrary to the synonymous status updates from all of your friends, Facebook updated their status Sunday: “A rumor on the internet caught our attention. We have no plans to charge for Facebook. It's free and always will be.”I wish my status updates would get 478,094 likes. I ran across an interesting report on CNN about new changes to come for Facebook. If you’re like me, you are oblivious to any changes on Facebook until you log in for the first time in the morning. Zuckerberg and the team are doing things a little different this time around. CNN reports this to be the “website’s biggest web redesign” in Facebook history.  From what I understand; the “mini Facebook” called the Ticker in the top right corner, and the changes to your news feed; are the least of our problems. At the end of the month, the Facebook team is rolling out the “Facebook Timeline”. According to CNN:

Your Facebook profile will go from having one central column to two, with boxes of texts, photos, videos and eve maps of your favorite locations. Rather than just displaying your most recent activities, your profile will become a scrapbook documenting your entire life, all the way back to your birth. Facebook will become a record of your existence: All of your memories, your victories, your defeats, your loves, your losses and everything else in between.(CNN)

Just when I thought I had the Facebook I loved. I followed my inner inquisitive spirit and researched the new template. After downloading the 'developer' and activating the new Facebook Timeline, I immediately logged out and went to bed with a headache. But wait...I revisited  my new and improved page hours later, and I admit I love the update. The Timeline is just that. Think about sitting in 8th grade history and your teacher draws a timeline across the board and marks it with important historical years: 2011---2010---2009 and so on! This new layout simply pinpoints important status updates, wall posts, photographs and comments in reverse chronological order. After playing with my new layout for a while, I felt a more emotional connection to Facebook. That sounds silly and a bit obsessive I know, but where else can you access this much information at one time about your life. So my suggestion, don't wait for the universal roll out and be frustrated like the million other users day of. Everyone should download the Facebook Timeline and start playing with it! I'm sure you could use a few laughs down memory lane. Well done Zuckerberg and team.

The Fight for Troy Davis

Protests on behalf of Davis
Would it be more appropriate for Troy Davis to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole? Petitions, protests and parades are sparking up all over the country for the life of Troy Davis. Is it too late? Davis was convicted of the 1989 killing of Savannah, GA police officer Mark MacPhail. He is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection tonight at 7 p.m. at a state prison in Jackson, Georgia.  The pope, Desmond Tutu and former President Jimmy Carter; and 600,000 people have signed a petition fighting to stop Davis’ execution. Attorneys for Davis were denied clemency on Tuesday for Davis as they presented their case for doubt in physical evidence and witness statements.  Davis has been granted a stay of execution three times prior to this most recent hearing.

In case you have missed this report, here is the breaking story yesterday from CNN:
Davis is set to take a polygraph test this morning; we will continue to follow this case as it develops throughout the day. What's your thoughts about the case? Let's talk about it!

Local Radio Personality Featured in Top Magazine

Rojay Armstead
Contact him: mailto:rojay@supersexysingle.com
The newest issue of Ebony magazine hits stores today! As Mary J. Blige graces the cover, there’s something a little more exciting about this issue. Every year, Ebony has a feature called Sexy Singles, and in this new issue we get the inside scoop on ten men and women who are accomplished, single and…well sexy. This is my favorite issue of Ebony; and this year, I was at Books-A-Million bright and early to get my copy to see Rojay Armstead make his Sexy Single debut.  You hear him clowning with ML6 on Huntsville’s 103.1 WEUP during the day, and he is a part of the team at WAAY 31 TV; well, he can now add Sexy Single to his resume. Rojay is all smiles about being in the magazine. He admits, ‘I never really considered myself as a ‘sexy single’, but I thought it would be something different and out of my comfort zone; so I went for it.” Admitting that he is picky and career focused, a relationship was the last thing on his mind over the past few years; but he recently turned 30 and is open to the possibility. He looks forwards to the doors and business adventures this may open up for him.

Congratulations Rojay, way to put Huntsville on the map for something positive! Go cop your issue of Ebony TODAY to see Rojay and the other sexy singles. Who knows, I might go for it for next year!

Mayweather's KO

Some call it a cheap shot, but I call it a knockout. The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz ended after four rounds on Saturday night with the title going to Mayweather after a gut wrenching left-right combination knockout. Moments before the knockout, Ortiz had Mayweather backed against the ropes and Ortiz landed a head-butt into Mayweather's chin. The true boxer in Mayweather shook it off and finished the fight victorious and a few millions richer.

At the replay, Ortiz appeared to be looking at the referee as Mayweather landed the punch; however I will repeat what everyone already knows: always protect yourself. If he wasn't ready to fight again, he should not have tapped gloves. Maybe Ortiz should have saved the apologizing for after the fight.

Mayweather's record remains at 42-0, but he did say  he would be happy for a rematch with Ortiz if asked. Even if it was only four rounds, it was the fight to see. Congrats Mayweather!

Never Forget...Remembering 9.11

Twin Towers, NY 9-11-01
At fifteen years old , I was not able to fully grasp the significance of the horror the September 11. I remember my teacher walking in from the hall with heavy tears streaming down her face and turning on the television. To what station, it didn't matter, every station was covering the story. Terrorist Attacks. Muslim Extremists.Twin Towers Destroyed. Planes Hijacked. Fatalities Unknown. These headlines resonated our classroom for the rest of the day and for months to come. The new "it" thing amongst my friends and I was wearing red, white and blue everyday. All I knew was everyone around me was hurting, enraged and proud to be an American, so I was fully on board. As the details of 9/11 unfolded, our teachers and parents took the time to help us understand the who, what, when, where and why of the events. I began to better grasp what happened and I cried. Watching footage of the attacks, reading the newspapers and learning the truth behind it was devastating.

Ten years later, it is still heartbreaking to watch and think about the tragedy that was inflicted upon our country. For the innocent lives lost, their families and the service men and women who lost their lives on duty; we should all say a prayer. I find it unfair the racial bias and discrimination inflicted upon any person that resembles the people that committed the crime. I only read about wars in my history books never thinking I would live a war era. Ten years later, I don't have any more answers than what our government has been able to provide; but I offer compassion. Compassion for my fellow American brother or sister, compassion for service men and women who fight everyday to keep me safe, compassion for our leaders who make the decisions that affect my freedom; and even compassion for those who fail to understand what makes us America and Americans as one.

I hope I never have to witness another day like September 11. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim's families, service men and women, the United States military and our country's leaders. I know it doesn't get easier, but united we will get through it.

God Bless America,
TerashaNicole
